If you could go back…
“If you could back in time, knowing what you know now, would you still have kids? Be honest.” My friend asked me and another friend this question.
I said look, it’s a complete change in lifestyle and it can be exhausting and challenging, but it’s also fun and motivating. My kids motivate me to set boundaries because I’m pressed for time, to take care of myself so I can care for them, and to be true to myself.
If I don’t show them what it looks like to be true to who I am, they won’t know how to do it for themselves later on.
I don’t sugarcoat parenting. But I choose to amplify the inspiring and motivating parts. I choose to focus on the fun parts and the joy even when there are sibling arguments, kid related obligations, and when I’d love to go out on dates with my husband more than a several times a month.
I choose to amplify that I’m doing my best to be a role model for them, rather than focus on my mistakes and the times I lost my patience.
They’ve made me more patient, more resilient, more flexible, more accepting, and less controlling (I’ve been told to accept the mess but I’m still working on that one!).
And I’m still learning. I’m still growing. They teach me each day and for that I’m grateful🙏🏽
