Yes, your time is NOW.
April 3, 2020
The current pandemic may have us experiencing a range of emotions each day including loss, sadness, worry, anxiety, and stress. The truth is we are all doing the best we can.
Taking care of the kids (like making sure they eat, sleep, bathe, don’t jump off of counters and hurt themselves), practicing self-care (thank you peloton and more), and doing work is challenging, but we are healthy. I wake up grateful for that and pray for everyone's health and well-being.
Although we can't control what will happen tomorrow or when it will pass, we know it will pass. What we have right now is time.
How will we choose to spend this time? And, who will we be when this is over?
I do most of my work at a desk in the corner of my bedroom (while my kids either watch Frozen II or watch train shows). The bulletin board above my desk has some motivational words I read each day, partly because they are right in front of me when I look up from my computer screen, but really because they lift my spirit.
This is one of my favorites: Keep trying, keep moving, keep believing, keep dreaming, keep hoping, keep loving. You got this.
It reminds me that in the midst of everything, there is still so much we can control. We can keep moving towards our personal and professional goals. We can keep trying to give what we can in the different areas of our lives. We can keep believing and hoping that we will make it through this together.
And, we can decide to keep loving and living each day with intention and purpose.
We can decide how we show up for ourselves, our loved ones, and others. We can decide how we treat our little ones who just want our attention when they ask us to "stop working" and get off our laptops.
We can decide to be kind to ourselves and give ourselves permission to not be a high-performer in every single area of our lives right now. Give yourself permission to stop being so damn hard on yourself.
Some of you are deciding to take the time to think about what you really want in life and work. We can certainly honor where we are, and still feel the desire to do the inner work to figure out the direction of our lives. Yes, even in times like these.
We can still play big...inside. We can get honest (brutally honest) about who we are and who we really want to be. We can get to work on living a life more true and aligned with who we are. We don’t need to let fear, others’ expectations, negative self-talk, and self-doubt get in our way.
When the current situation is over, we can look back and be grateful and proud of the inner work we did. We can be proud of how we showed up. Are you with me?
