Coping skills
I probably learned too late how to really cope with stress and the curveballs life threw my way. I’m also still learning that rest is actually productive. It’s just not something most of us are taught.
My parents didn’t have the privilege of rest.
When I was young, my parents were in survival mode. They were working, trying to keep my sister and I safe in a rough neighborhood, and paying for an education in a town 20 minutes away.
They didn’t have the privilege of mental and emotional space like I do. Still, I feel stress and I get overwhelmed. Learning to cope with it and becoming more resilient in the process is one of the reasons I’m still here and why I’m able to navigate change a bit better.
Because the only constant in life is change, and we all need tools on how to navigate the messiness and beauty of life.
Stress management therapist JOY Langley and I talk about how to cope in part 1 of this two part episode. You don’t want to miss it.
Don’t worry part 2 is coming soon.
