Episode Alert

No, you’re not an imposter. You’re not a fraud. No one is going to “find you out” - if they’re going to find out anything, it’s that you’ve worked hard, you know your stuff and that you’re the real deal.

It’s hard to feel like you’ve earned your spot when you’ve been doubted for much of your life. And when you did have to work hard in some cases to “catch up”.

I’m that person. I’m not supposed to be where I am. I internalized a lot of others’ doubts in my abilities (from childhood on) in the beginning of my career.

Then over time, I got more experience, spending thousands of hours practicing my craft as a lawyer. I spoke up more, and I let myself be heard.

I slowly understood that I’m not a fraud. I belong here because I’ve earned it. Period. So do you.

Spaces I occupy weren’t created for Latinas, women of color, and first gen professionals like me. But that doesn’t mean we can’t still thrive in them. It takes our own action plus structural change.

I’m on a mission to make sure that all women of color know and can feel their own power in these spaces, and that they know they’ve earned their seat at the table.

In part 1 of this two-part episode of the podcast, I’m going in on imposter syndrome, where it originated, and ways to navigate it.  I also share why your perception of someone else’s confidence can be overrated or misplaced, and one major way to build confidence.
