Unlearning is a process…
Did you know research shows a girl’s confidence peaks when she’s 9 years old?
The world sends girls messages like:
Be great, but not too much.
Excel, but don’t be a show off.
Girls often learn to make decisions based on what they should do and what they’re supposed to do, rather than what feels good for them.
As we grow, institutions, culture, social media, and society continue to reinforce those messages and then also tell us:
You aren’t smart enough.
You aren’t pretty enough.
You aren’t skinny enough.
You aren’t talented enough.
You aren’t doing enough.
You aren’t present enough for your kids.
You don’t have enough degrees.
You aren’t enough as you are.
We start believing something is missing.
We move through life believing so many untruths and we look for ways to pour back into our cups with external validation and approval.
We do this until we take a hard look at what we think, how we feel, and what is happening inside.
We begin unlearning all of that conditioning.
That is women’s empowerment coach Dina Scippa life’s work. I’ve known her since high school and for two decades, she’s been focused on women’s empowerment.
On this week’s episode of the Humble Rising Podcast, Dina walks us through the difference between enoughness and worthiness, what self-empowerment really means, and how to give yourself permission to do what feels right for you, instead of what’s right for everyone else when it’s at your expense.
This is the first of two conversations with Dina. She comes back for another conversation next week. 👏🏽 So if you enjoy this episode, you’ll want to tune in to next week’s too.
